RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN QUALITY OF LIFE, HEARING AND COGNITIVE DECLINE

For a person to be said to enjoy quality of life, a series of conditions must be met, including the ability to relate to others. For this relationship to be positive, the person must be able to communicate, and hearing plays a very important role here.

Hearing well allows us to communicate, so if we do not hear properly, we gradually withdraw into ourselves and therefore lose quality of life.

Losing hearing does not mean we are destined to lose our quality of life. There are hearing solutions, such as hearing aids, that allow us to maintain our pace of life. In this way, we can confirm that a person with hearing loss who solves this problem with hearing aids is in the same condition as a person who hears well. On the other hand, if hearing is lost and no solutions are sought, cognitive decline may appear, causing certain brain activities to become inactive, with the drawbacks this can involve. In some cases, this can in turn lead to the onset of dementia.

There are several professionals who can help prevent this situation of hearing loss from ultimately leading, in extreme cases, to dementia, including hearing care professionals, ENT specialists, speech therapists and psychologists. At Auz Audiology Hearing Centre, we are by your side to advise you and explain the advantages of hearing well and how to achieve it if you suffer from hearing loss.

In the field that concerns us, we must highlight hearing solutions, or hearing aids, as instruments that allow people with hearing loss to relate properly to the rest of society. It is also true that using hearing aids will always require an adaptation period that varies from person to person; generally, the older the person, the more time they may need to become fully accustomed to using them.
